About Jan

Jan has been a librarian for over 40 years.  Her career as an author began when she attended a writing seminar at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC.  After the seminar she began to write articles for newspapers and educational journals.  Her first book for children, Rope Burn, was published in 1998.  Jan's novels for kids  have been named to numerous award lists.

Jan enjoys connecting with her readers through school and library visits.   She has conducted many writing workshops for kids, including summer writing camps at the historic Roycroft Campus in East Aurora, New York.   She closely connects being a reader with being a writer.  Jan tells kids, "When you are reading, all kinds of things are happening in your brain that you don't even know are happening ... it's magical."   Contact Jan  if you are interested in setting up an author visit.  Class sets of Jan's books are available to borrow ...

Jan lives with her husband, Jim, in East Aurora, New York.  She enjoys time with family, hiking, travel and "doing time" with a good book.
